Practical environmental oversight on site

Where a project requires an Environmental Control Officer, AWEC provides independent monitoring to help ensure that construction is carried out in line with the Environmental Authorisation, Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) and other applicable environmental requirements.

Andrew West handles the site inspections and reporting directly, providing practical feedback to the project team and identifying issues before they become bigger problems.

ECO services can include

  • Reviewing the Environmental Authorisation and EMPr before work starts
  • Regular site inspections and compliance monitoring
  • Monitoring environmental controls and sensitive areas
  • Identifying non-compliances and required corrective actions
  • Maintaining photographic records
  • Preparing clear ECO monitoring reports
  • Liaising with contractors, engineers and the developer on environmental matters
  • Following up on environmental incidents or outstanding actions

The exact scope and frequency of ECO visits will depend on the requirements of the project’s Environmental Authorisation and EMPr.

Local experience

Based in George, AWEC provides ECO services across the Garden Route, including Mossel Bay, Knysna, Oudtshoorn and the surrounding Southern Cape.

Andrew has more than 40 years of experience in the environmental field and remains directly involved in the work, from the initial project review through to site inspections and reporting.

If Environmental Authorisation has not yet been obtained, that earlier work is covered under Environmental Authorisation & Basic Assessments.
